Terms of Service

FamTwig is a family tree service based in India.

When we say “FamTwig”, “we”, “us” or “our”, we mean the service that operates FamTwig.

You must be 18 or older to create a FamTwig account.

Please use an email address you have access to and keep your account secure.

You are responsible for activity on your account.

If you think someone else has accessed your account, please contact us.

The family trees, names, profile photos, dates, notes and other information you add to FamTwig remain yours.

You give FamTwig permission to store, process and display this information only as needed to provide the service and show it to the people you choose.

Please only add information, photos or other content that you have the right to use or share.

Take extra care when adding information about living people and children.

If someone asks you to remove private information about them, please respect their request.

Your family tree is private unless you choose to share it.

You can create private sharing links and control what people can see.

Private links may also require an access code.

Anyone who has the link and access code may be able to see the information included in that shared tree.

Only share your link and access code with people you trust.

You can disable a sharing link at any time.

Some paid plans allow you to invite family members to help edit your tree.

People invited to edit must have their own FamTwig account.

The tree owner controls who can edit the tree and can remove access at any time.

Editors may add or change family information, so only invite people you trust.

FamTwig may keep a history of important changes so you can see who changed something.

Each family tree has one owner.

The owner’s FamTwig plan determines the limits and features available for that tree.

The owner may transfer a tree to someone who already helps edit it. The previous owner stays on as an editor.

A paid subscription does not transfer with the tree.

A transfer only goes ahead if the tree fits within the new owner’s plan limits.

When using FamTwig, please don’t:

• break the law;
• scam, spam, bully or impersonate people;
• knowingly share private information about someone who does not want it shared;
• upload content unless you own it, have permission to use it, or otherwise have the right to use it;
• try to hack, damage or overload FamTwig;
• try to get around plan limits or security controls;
• use bots or automated tools to copy large amounts of FamTwig data;
• use FamTwig in a way that harms other users or the service.

If necessary, we may remove content, restrict features or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these rules.

FamTwig’s software, design, branding, logo and original content belong to us or are licensed to us.

Using FamTwig does not give you ownership of FamTwig itself.

You may use FamTwig normally, but you may not copy, resell or misuse the service or its branding.

Your own family information remains yours.

FamTwig offers a Free plan and paid plans.

Each plan may have limits for things such as:

• number of people;
• number of family trees;
• private sharing links;
• collaborators;
• exports; and
• other paid features.

Current limits and prices are shown on our Pricing page.

We may change plan features or prices in the future.

If a change affects an existing paid subscription, we will handle it as described at the time and as required by law.

Paid FamTwig plans are billed yearly.

Paid subscriptions automatically renew until you cancel.

You will see the price and any applicable taxes before completing your purchase.

If you upgrade your plan during your current subscription, the upgrade may start immediately and you may be charged a prorated amount for the remaining subscription period.

If you move to a smaller plan, the change normally starts when your current paid period ends.

You can cancel your subscription at any time.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not immediately delete your FamTwig account or family tree.

If your paid plan expires or you move to a smaller plan, we will not delete your family tree simply because it is larger than your new plan allows.

You can still access your existing information.

Some actions may be limited, including:

• adding more people;
• creating more trees;
• adding collaborators;
• creating more private sharing links;
• using paid export features.

You can regain those features by upgrading again or bringing your tree within your current plan limits.

Paid FamTwig purchases are processed by Paddle.

Paddle acts as our Merchant of Record and authorised reseller.

Paddle handles payment processing, applicable taxes, subscription billing and refunds.

FamTwig remains responsible for the FamTwig service itself.

Paddle’s Buyer Terms and Refund Policy also apply to purchases made through Paddle.

FamTwig may show public family trees in Explore using information from sources such as Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikimedia Commons.

This information may be incomplete, outdated or incorrect.

Photos and other third-party content remain subject to their own copyright, licence and attribution requirements.

FamTwig does not claim ownership of third-party content.

Explore does not use private family trees created by FamTwig users.

We work to keep FamTwig secure and available, but we cannot promise that it will always work perfectly.

There may occasionally be:

• bugs;
• maintenance;
• outages;
• errors; or
• changes to features.

Please keep your own export or backup of family information that is especially important to you.

You can delete your FamTwig account from Settings.

Before deleting your account, you should export anything you want to keep.

Deleting your account may permanently remove family trees and other information owned by that account after any required backup or retention period.

We may suspend or close an account if it seriously or repeatedly breaks these Terms, if required by law, because of fraud or security risks, or because required payments have not been made.

Where reasonably possible, we will tell you first.

FamTwig is provided as available.

We are not responsible for losses caused by things outside our reasonable control or for indirect losses that could not reasonably have been expected.

Where the law allows, our total responsibility relating to FamTwig will not be more than the amount you paid for FamTwig during the previous 12 months.

Nothing in these Terms removes rights or protections that the law does not allow us to remove.

FamTwig is based in India.

These Terms are governed by the laws of India.

If consumer laws in your country give you additional rights, you keep those rights.

We may update these Terms as FamTwig changes.

When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top.

If we make an important change that affects your rights, we will provide reasonable notice through FamTwig, by email, or both where appropriate.
